Museum Research

To date, a number of research projects have been undertaken regarding the New Italy Museum and historic site. The Centre for Regional Tourism Research

The Centre is a joint venture between the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism (CRC Tourism) and Southern Cross University (SCU). The Centre for Regional Tourism Research has a laboratory, on campus at Southern Cross University, offering tourism practitioners and organisations in the regions an education, training and management resource centre. The lab, plus the Centre's website combine to create valuable resources for regional tourism.

Tourism operators in regional Australia will be able to benefit from access to targeted research and information on regional tourism best practice. This information can facilitate improved approaches to marketing, customer service, management of regional organisations and the provision of visitor services. The Centre for Regional Tourism Research (CRTR) has been responsible for designing and building the New Italy Interactive Museum and through facilitation of the project have created strong cooperative links with other project partners.

SCU Regional Gateway

The Southern Cross University Regional Gateway is the fastest and most convenient way to tap into the wealth of knowledge and skills available through SCU campuses in Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Tweed Gold Coast.

Heritage Futures Research Centre

Established to research the contribution of heritage to regional identity - past, present and future. The Heritage Futures Research Centre provides a focal point for;

1. Cross-disciplinary research and consultancy in the natural and cultural heritage of the New England region
2. The communication of heritage values and information to the community at large.

It involves a broad research group of established academics, students, post-graduates, early career researchers and independent researchers.

The Richmond Valley Council

The Richmond Valley Council is located in the tropical north of New South Wales and stretches some 85 kilometres from the coastline inland to the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.

Richmond Valley Council has been involved in developing the New Italy Museum Interactive Website. The project is proudly supported with Richmond Valley Council recognising the important contribution it will make to the living heritage that is ‘New Italy’.

The Council has conducted a community based heritage study to identify areas or objects that need to be conserved for the future. The need has also been identified to investigate the promotion of New Italy.
